The Kaleidoscope Story
2015 – The Kaleidoscope Project was established based on research from the Center for Child and Family Policy at Duke University, with the goal of implementing best practices across Wake County sites to strengthen children’s social and emotional development.
2019 – Reached a milestone of completing our 25th funded project site.
2020 – Shifted to a community-led implementation model, partnering with DHIC’s Beacon Ridge Apartments to pilot a project designed and driven by residents.
How we Started
Where We Are Going
2022 – The Kaleidoscope Project received a five-year, $1.9 million grant from the John Rex Endowment to implement six additional sites using a community-led process. This approach is designed to build community capacity and advocate for initiatives that support the social and emotional well-being of young children and their families.
By 2026 – Our goal is to select six new project site partners.
Looking Ahead – Advocacy remains a central focus. Kaleidoscope is growing a network of passionate individuals who believe in the power of community voice. We will continue collaborating with community partners and engaging decision-makers to ensure barriers to children’s social and emotional well-being are addressed and removed.
